History

Originally built in 1886, Manderley was the home of David and Adda Howie. David was a coal merchant, Civil War veteran and a prominent member of Milwaukee Society. Adda, known as “Lady Howie”, was a published author, lobbyist, and world famous innovator of dairy farming techniques. The house is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places for outstanding architectural significance.

Today

This spacious home is a magnificent tribute to the style and grace which defined Milwaukee in the late 1800’s. Six fireplaces, intricate woodwork, hand painted walls, and glowing stained glass windows help to make this romantic setting your home away from home during your stay in Milwaukee. Throughout Manderley you will find an eclectic collection of art and decorative objects that are inspired by nature. The Aesthetics Movement of the 1880’s has been the inspiration for the thoughtful restoration of Manderley, and it creates a warm, comfortable and interesting environment we hope you will enjoy.
